Day one of the 27th PhoneWatch Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé 2016 international adult ladies and men’s Gaelic football tournament is complete.
This tournament simply wouldn’t happen without all of the local west Kerry and Tralee clubs making their pitches available in extremely difficult conditions and the committee wants to sincerely thank them for that. Kerry sides have been productive this afternoon.
The Dermot Earley Senior men’s cup the semi-final results saw Newcastle West 0-6 lose to Dingle 0-8. The second semi-final saw Kingdom Kerry Gaels 0-9 beat the hosts An Ghaeltacht 0-6 having overcome Waterford’s Kilrossanty in the earlier round. So the UK side are through to the final against Dingle which will take place at gallarus at 315pm tomorrow.
Seniors Ladies Cup Southern Gaels are through to the final having beaten Castleisland 4-17 to 1-2 in a straight semi-final. Three teams competed in the other side of the draw.2013 All Ireland intermediate club champions Claregalway beat Corca Dhuibhne 9-6 to 1-03. Confey of Kildare then beat the west Kerry side 5-13 to 0-2. And in the last round Confey were well beaten by Claregalway 1-11 to 1-0. So, Claregalway will play Ivereagh side Southern Gaels in tomorrow’s final at 12 noon in Gallarus.
The Intermediate men’s competition had six teams in a pool format. Annascaul are through to the final having overcome Listry 0-7 to 0-2. And a little earlier they had plenty in the tank to beat St John’s of Sligo 4-9 to 1-5. On the other side Lispole comfortably beat Clanna Gael of Dublin 2-9 to 1 and Easkey sea blues of Sligo 1-10 to 1-5. So it’s an all Kerry intermediate men’s final which takes place at Gallarus with kick off at 1.40pm.
The Intermediate Ladies Cup was a four team competition with two Kerry sides falling away in the straight semi-finals. Cork Gaeltacht side Naomh Aban of Baile Bhuirne 4-7 to Beaufort 1-7 was the first semi-final while Burrishoole of Mayo got over Est Kerry side Firies in the other semi-final.
In the final, it was Burrishoole of Mayo who came through an evenly matched final 3-6 to Naomh Aban 3-5.
Junior men’s rounds up sees Rosenallis of Laois reach the final on points difference. On other side of the pool Castlegregory comfortably beat Dulwich 2-9 Uk to 0-1 and just earlier they beat St Breckans of Lisdoonvarna 1-8to 0-2. So the Castlegregory men meet Rosenallis at 1pm in Lispole in the Junior men’s final.
Finally in the Junior Ladies Cup, Dingle overcame two Dublin sides Portobello and Man O War to reach the final while John Mitchel’s beat Lucan Sarsfields and Liverpool Ladies which meant it was an all Kerry clash this afternoon in the junior ladies final at Mounthawk school pitch Tralee. Despite a rally of 1-1 in the final five minutes it was John Mitchells who came through by two points on a scoreline of Dingle 2-7 to John Mitchel’s 3-4.
