PhoneWatch Comórtas Peile Páidi Ó Sé 2015,
20-22 February, 2015

The Defence Forces Gaelic football team will launch an offensive on the senior men’s cup, named after the former Defence Forces Chief of Staff Dermot Earley, as part of this year’s PhoneWatch Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé 2015.
Over 1,300 Gaelic football players and supporters from Ireland and abroad will compete in the 26th year of the PhoneWatch Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé 2015, with 36 adult men’s and ladies club teams descending on the rugged Dingle Peninsula from 20th-22nd February.

Supported by PhoneWatch, Opel Ireland, Lee Strand Milk, Fáilte Ireland, Kerry County Council Tourism Unit, and Newstalk 106-108FM, the football festival has attracted over 10,000 club players since it began in 1989. It has grown into a major international GAA event with senior, intermediate and junior clubs travelling this year from 11 different counties as well as Madrid, Brussels and parts of England. The festival of football also includes nightly music and entertainment and an annual photographic exhibition.

The annual photography exhibition will this year feature the work of award winning Killarney photographer Julian Behal from Maxwell Photography agency. His exhibit, ‘Through My Lens’ will be launched at 5:30pm, Sun, 22nd Feb in Paidi’s pub at Ard A’ Bhothair, Ventry and will remain on display in the pub for two months.

Pádraig Óg. Ó Sé said, ‘We are delighted the Comórtas continues to attract clubs from all over the world. We welcome the Defence Forces this year under management including Captain Dermot Earley Junior, son to the legendary Dermot who was a great friend of my Dad. We are grateful for the support of Ireland’s largest intruder alarm company PhoneWatch and also Fáilte Ireland, Opel Ireland, local sponsor Lee Strand Milk and our media partner Newstalk 106-108FM”.
Eoin Dunne, Managing Director of PhoneWatch said; “PhoneWatch are delighted to be the title sponsor once again of this iconic sporting event which is a fitting tribute to Páidí’s sporting life. We look forward to a successful weekend and would like to wish all the participants of the PhoneWatch Comórtas Peile Páidí ÓSé tournament the very best of luck. Go n-éirí go geal libh! “.

Páidí Monument Announcement
The Páidí ÓSé monument committee is pleased to announce that after the financial support of many people in the corporate sector and some fundraising events over the past year, they have almost all the budget required to erect a life-size bronze monument outside his home in Ard A Bhóthair as a reminder of Páidí’s contribution to Irish society. A final push of fundraising is taking place at the moment to cover the costs associated with the launch event which will be  officially unveiled by Mick O’Dwyer on 16th May, 2015, on what would have been Páidí’s 60th birthday. The monument is currently being created by well-known Sculptor Seamus Connolly from Kilbaha, Co. Clare who created (along with his son James) the John B. Keane statue in Listowel.

The Páidí ÓSé monument committee was formed in early 2014 to perpetuate the memory of the late Páidí O Sé, a man who achieved extraordinary things for his county, his parish and the country at large – both on and off the football field – in a comparatively short life.
